GROWITHIT officially started in the spring of 2011 but our roots go much deeper. We have been gardening in cylinders, or pots with the bottoms cut out to conserve water for decades. In recent years we have been experimenting with adding a
clear plastic dome, which acts as a greenhouse and helps protect the young plants from excessive moisture (snow and rain) as well as wind and insects.
About five years ago we decided that we were tired of putting hours and hours into our garden only to have its natural beauty compromised by the wire cages we were using. We wanted to find a way that we could provide the plants we were growing with the structure and support they needed without making our garden look like a junkyard.
From this idea we were able to come up with a layer, or ring apparatus that could be installed on top of one another. The idea of using recycled material was a natural one since this product, by the very nature of its design, promotes water conservation. So why not make the product from recycled post-industrial scrap plastic and rubber?
The dome is the only item not made from recycled material. We will continue to search for an acceptable material to make the domes from without losing the functionality of the clear plastic that captures sunlight, which is the essential ingredient for growing the vegetables we enjoy the most.
We hope you enjoy your vegetable cage. We have spent many years developing the idea and have had terrific success with most of the plants we have tried.
