We Think Our Tomato Cages Are The Best That Money Can Buy

Tomato cages are pretty cool. Obviously you can't just let your tomatoes grow without using some form of support, whether it's a tomato cage, tomato stake or a trellis.

They all serve their purpose and have their various strengths and weaknesses. Then there's the Texas tomato cages that are sprial and fold down to save space.

However, we feel that our container gardening system is the best form of tomato cage that money can buy. It not only provides the best support, but also offers protection of the tomato plant. It also allows for natural nourishment of the plant and water conservation. It's very easy to install and you can keep adding tiers to each unit as the tomato plant grows.

Our bucket and dome is sold separately and you can get as many rings and posts as you need depending on how many tomatoes you're growing. We think that the Growithit System is the ultimate in tomato cages, but try one yourself!

Burlap Bags As A Method Of Container Gardening

You can plant potatoes above ground! That's right, using container gardening you can grow potatoes and not have to have a garden. This is great for people with a small amount of space, i.e. if you live in an apartment or house with little to no yard space.

What Is Container Gardening?

Container gardening is basically just growing plants in containers. That is, doing your gardening not in a garden bed but in pots or other containers. Traditionally plants are grownin the ground, but container gardening can be done pretty much anywhere, for instance in the home, office, on your patio, by a pond, etc.

What Are Tomato Cages Used For?

Most people who have done any gardening are familiar with tomato cages, but for those who want to learn or want to know more, this post aims to tell you all about it.

Tomato cages are typically cylindrical wire cages - although we at Growithit are helping to change them from ugly wire cages to something more beautiful and made of recycled materials. Wahtever the material used, the cages acts as a sort of trellis or support for the tomato plant. Other plants can take advantage of a tomato cage as well, it's just that tomatoes in particular need it and some sort of support is pretty ubiquitous when growing tomatoes so that's what they're called.

Basically, as the tomatoes grows on their stems they obviously get bigger and bigger... and heavier and heavier! This causes the plant to droop and bend - enough so that the fruit may actually droop and touch the ground. If this happens, the tomato (or other vegetable) may be attacked by pests or be more susceptible to rot and/or disease.

Should I Use A Cage Or A Stake?

Well, using a stake is tricky: as the plant grows, you have to keep tying the plant to the stake in different places. Also, tying with rope or twine can put undue stress on a branch by pinching it or crimping it at a bad angle.
